This Week at a Glance 8/29/16

This Week At A Glance

Reading - We are working on building our stamina for Independent Reading.  The students are required to read for longer periods of time without distractions or interrupting their classmates.  We also started using an online program called ReadingWorks.  The students access the website through my blog.  I have assigned articles for them to read and questions for them to answer.  They can complete these assignments at their own pace.  If you have a computer and Internet access from home, ask your child to show you what they have been doing.

Math - This week the students will be working on elapsed time, scaled bar graphs and multiplication strategies.  Please keep in mind that the new math program spirals throughout the year, so you may see some of these skills revisited later on.  This gives the students a chance to review and enrich their learning.

Science -We are still working on our Plants Unit.  I will be sending a note home with your child regarding a project for this unit.  Please look for a green note in your child's mail on Wednesday.  This week's focus is on what plants need to grow and the life cycle of plants.

Writing - The students are being re-introduced to Writer's workshop.  This week's lessons will focus around A Protected Writing Time, Ideas and Extending Writing.
